Things you should know

I did’t stop for coffee this week, so having no other way to update you I am going to do it now, very quickly and most likely in the form of a listing type thing. Seriously, I have become a lady of the lists since I started my new job, it’s the only way I can cope.

Training the top box

Once upon a time, while bored and surfing the Internet I came across an App for brain training called Elevate. When you have no idea whether or not Dementia is going to come knocking at your door,  trust me, you do all you can to assist the old grey matter. I wish I hadn’t bothered, because it just proved what I have known for a long time…..I’m fecking stupid.

It’s a good App and I am enjoying the challenges, however sometimes it speaks to me in a language I do not understand. I don’t mean a foreign language, it uses words like alliteration, which to me sounds like a rave at a rubbish tip, or algorithm, a dancing plank? cos in my head when I see that I hear a – log – o – rhythm.

What however did surprise me was that I aced the estimations for the Maths test, strange considering I passed both my English ‘O’ Levels, but never my maths. Apparently since I have aged my brain has gone all arse about face (back to front, for those not in the know).

I have no doubt that as I progress the tests will get harder causing either one of two things to happen, a) my brain will explode or b) my phone will as I bounce it against the wall in frustration.

Social Media

I am, by my own admission, pretty rubbish at the whole social media thing. I know (because Google says so) that in order for Facebook pages etc to work they must be regularly updated. What I didn’t know (thanks Google), is that telling a rubbish joke once a month is not classed as a regular update. Note to self, improve networking technique.

What I was amazed about however is how far a post can go just from a few likes. A FB page will give you insights into how well a post has done. One with no ‘likes’ will perhaps only be viewed say 5 times. One with 4 ‘Likes’ can lead to views of 100 people. It’s fascinating yet scary, and shows that my friends are very popular…damn them!

On the strength of this, I decided to host a little experiment and see how far a post of mine would go. It made it to the end of the street, that’s a result right?!

Wanna like my page on Facebook? – You can HERE . I regularly update with one joke a month :)

That’s all I’ve got you’ll be glad to hear. Till next time eejits :)

  1. I really like the amount of snark you put into your writing as it keeps me coming back to read more. I’ve known for a while I’m just not as good as a millennial when it comes to social media. In fact for me its more like anti-social media. My brain is slowing down but I’m trying to make sure I have fun getting to the point my daughter will hose me down for crapping my pants asking “Did you say something? What?” LOL

  2. Entertaining Juls, social media if you get too involved can turn into a full time job and there seems a lot of dross between the good and bad stuff….I have this theory that as we age our math skill improves…..that is if it only involves adding up and taking away…hope you have a great weekend….

    • Do you know what, you’re spot in with the maths bit, because long division leave me feeling lost and times tables multiply my stress levels and the exercise I was doing was just adding lol
You have a great weekend too :)

    • Lol I’m not becoming universally loved, you just need to take those stats with a pinch of salt.
They contain about 100 odds from Twitter, half of whom only probably followed in the hope I’d follow back lol
Here, same thing, so if you break it all down there’s probably nowhere near that number and even fewer who interact, but who cares, I’m very luck to have met loads of new eejits, yourself included :)

      • Follows are like snowflakes. Where do they come from? Who knows. Well, sure, the sky which absorbed evaporated water from the cycle of life. But, which cloud? And, does every cloud speak? No. Where am I going with this insanity? Not sure. But, at least half of the Follows we get seem to be fans of the moment who see something they like and want to get back to it. But, like with so many online buffets, who has the time? Yay, I am followed…and the follower is walking right on by to the next buffet station, clicking away on his lil gizmo…there goes another 200 things he likes… And, life goes on.

In short, F’ stats. :) It’s the voices that return your calls that matter.

      • I would never wish snowflakes on anyone other than for a brief period right around Christmas so people can get their fill of sleigh bells and the like. That…and if I was really mad at someone in the winter time, I might…well, let’s not go there.

In short, Follows are stupid and unreliable. Websites change looks and whatnot whenever they please. I’ve lost some Follows I really cared about. I come back to what’s supposed to be my retreat and find the furniture rearranged. ‘Feels just like home with the family…and I hate it.

  3. I just love you being you.

I ignore most of the things that FB sends me about my blog page. I am in the process of mostly cutting out using it on the personal side, so really it just becomes another place for me to publish links to posts.

I’ll have to check out that app…I’m always looking for things to do on my phone at 3 Am besides play Yahtzee ;-)

    • The app is good, but it’s getting frustratingly hard, that said I am trying to do it on the train with headphones in lol
As you can already see I don’t use main Facebook much, I only made it as I needed to have an account for the page. The page I would like to grow however, it’s a source of quick amusement during the day, that said, I know in the long run that I won’t have the time to dedicate to it.

  4. One joke a month? You can do better than that. I went to a restaurant today and asked for something herby. The waiter came back with a Volkswagen Beetle with no driver.

  5. I want to scream and/or vomit after reading that F’book bit. That’s what I call it, F’book. Cuz as far as I am concerned, the makers can go…well, you know. :D

Regular updates. Pshh. Mooo. Get along, little cows, into the slaughter house with you. Soon you will be hamburger for the masses. Please do NOT get caught up in all of that popularity and stats business. It just rots your brain and kills esteem.

You have an interesting form of dyslexia that rearranges letters from big, uncommon words. :)

    • Lol You’re suck a drama queen, scream and vomit?? I bet you stamped your feet too! I like interaction with the followers on my blog, that does NOT in anyway shape form or fashion mean that I will become a Bakebook sheep lol
I stopped caring about stats a long time ago, but in the course of a normal day, which in my world often tends to be challenging, it’s nice to have a little interaction and fun, and Facebook can sometimes offer thay when access to WordPress is not possible. So quit your whinging ya antisocial sod!! lol

      • I can stomp my feet if I feel like it. :)

Interaction is one thing. Being able to actually exchange words in a form of chat (like this) is a small, minor, measly measure of social growth. But, LIKES and FOLLOWS and TWEETS and HASH TAGS (which seriously sound like the invention of potheads from Silicon Valley) are ridiculous. And, when people start talking about how many of this or that they got or lost, I want to scream, etc.

Well, I never! Good day, ya cartoon ninny nanny! :P
